The Chief Executive Officer of Unity Oil Company Ltd, Mr Kwame Kyei Baffuor, has called on the government to give more priority and opportunities to the Ghanaian business community in the development of the countrys emerging oil industry.
He said the failure on the part of policy makers to encourage indigenous businessmen and women to invest in the local oil industry and provide job opportunities to the youth could cost the country incalculable damage in future.
That was because foreign investors who took a stake in the countrys economy would certainly repatriate their profits.Mr Kyei Baffour made the call in an interview after receiving the Gold award as the best oil marketing company in the energy category of the sixth annual Ashanti Business Excellence award held in Kumasi.
The award scheme was organized as part of the 10 anniversary of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as Asantehene. The Unity Oil Company has operations in Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Greater Accra and Western region.
Mr Kyei Baffour underscored the need to avoid politicizing the development of the oil industry. Rather, he said, matters relating to the emerging oil industry should be managed and organized from the professional perspective to ensure that the best was delivered to the country.
