Vodafone Ghana, in conjunction with Emerge Limited, an indoor/outdoor promotions company, has introduced a new customer rewards promotion, dubbed: "Vodafone Christmas Giveaway."

The promotion, which is running for 10 days, ending Christmas day, December 25, at the Accra Shopping Mall, was intended to reward existing and new customers who make purchases of Vodafone products at the mall through a lucky dip and a pop and win.

Ms Michelle Attoh, Marketing Manager of Emerge, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that "we want to add an element of surprise and value to the purchases made by existing and new customers of Vodafone".

She said customers who made purchases to the tune of GHc30 stood the chance of winning ipods, modems and pen drives in the lucky dip, whiles those who made purchases below GHc30 would pop and balloon and win the Vodafone branded pens, T-shirt and cups.

Ms. Attoh said the purpose of the promotion was also to increase sales of Vodafone products, adding that in less than four days, the promotion met half of its sales target.

She explained that the promotion employed a "Flash mob" strategy, where dancers dressed in Santa Clause gear among shoppers danced at random from various corners of the mall to the Vodafone sales point, to attract shoppers' attention to the sales point.

"When we introduced the flash mob for the first time the whole shop came to a stand still and Vodafone became the centre piece," she said.

Ms. Attoh said the due to the success of the Christmas Giveaway Promotion there were plans to replicate the concept in other trading and commercial centres across the country.

Mr. Johannes Eshun, Vodafone Sales Representative at the mall also told the GNA that since the promotion started, sales had gone very high as compared with the pre-promotional period.

"We earmarked 34 rewards per day and everything run out such that some buyers do not even get to participate in the promotion - we are therefore thinking about raising the number to 50 rewards per day," he said.

He noted that sales pick up usually after launch when lots of people troupe to the mall to do their Christmas shopping.

Mr. Eshun said beside the lucky dip and pop and win, Vodafone sales persons also moved round the shopping mall distributing bottles of Vodafone-branded water freely to shoppers.
