The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has announced plans to adequately provide logistical support for the oil and gas sector to facilitate the implementation of the local content policy.

So far, oil companies operating at the Jubilee oilfield in the Western region have been using the Sekondi Naval base, the Takoradi Airforce base and the Takoradi Port as their principal logistical bases.

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has therefore acquired a 30-acre land at Funko, a suburb of Takoradi to build a logistics support platform for the oil and gas industry.

According to the Authority, two of the 30-acre land will be used for the construction of two warehouses that will serve as storage facilities for logistics needed by the oil companies.

The construction of the 20,000 feet warehouses is being funded by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority and Consolidated Investors in the United States of America at a cost of $ 2.4 million.

This was disclosed by the Chief Executive of the Authority, Kofi Mbiah when board members of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority inspected existing installations of the oil companies at the Takoradi Port and the site for the construction of the logistics platform at Funko.

Mr. Mbiah stated that the authority is ready to collaborate with the players in the oil and gas sector to provide any form of logistical support needed to develop the industry in the country.
