Shell Mark ‘Customer Contact Day’

Shell Ghana Limited has observed its ‘Customer Contact Day’ with the commitment of ensuring health, safety, security for its customers, shareholders and employees in an environmentally responsible way.

The day was marked on the theme “Don’t Mess With Fuel” to emphasise the need for safety in fuel handling and storage to avoid or minimise safety-related injuries and deaths, and make the world a safer place for all.

Managing Director of Shell Ghana Limited, Mr. Omar Benson, said “the objective for the Customer Contact Day is to get Shell staff onto the company’s Shell retail stations, customer and mine sites to interact with customers and site staff.”

The theme for the occasion, “Don’t Mess With Fuel”, he noted, is an opportunity to interact with and draw the attention of motorists to the dangers they face while handling fuel, which is an essential and indispensable aspect of their motoring experience.

He interacted with motorists, while sharing the safety culture of Shell to motorists on the need to turn off their mobile phones and avoid smoking in a fuel storage or refueling area; keep engines off while refuelling; the need to avoid sitting on motor-cycles during refueling, as well as use of approved containers for storing fuel.

Mr. Benson said that all accidents that result from the unsafe handling and storage of fuel are preventable if motorists are conscious of their health, safety, security and the environment in which they operate.

The Shell HSSE policy drive, he intimated, is to ensure the safety of people as well as protect the environment in line with the company’s ‘Goal Zero’ objective of totally preventing injuries of any kind.

The interactive exercise, which went along with distribution of educative communication materials, was to emphasise Shell’s belief that all motorists can operate effectively and still have zero deaths, injuries, and other accident cases by establishing/observing the necessary safety precautions.

“Shell, over the years, has been at the forefront of technological advancement; providing quality fuels and lubricants as well as convenience shopping and related services to its customers all over the country,” he said.

Product innovations such as ‘Shell V-Power’, ‘Shell Diesel Extra’ with fuel economy, and the recently launched ‘Shell Super Extra’, he noted, are meant to meet the needs of customers; but added that the safety of the customers is also paramount, hence the Shell Customer Contact Day.
