Relationship with all key stakeholders is important to the operations of MTN, over the years MTN has proactively engaged with its customers, vendors, dealers, media, government, and communities, but for the very first time it gathered select representatives of traders under the Ghana Union of Traders Association at the plush Alisa Hotel to interact with them.
Coincidentally, MTN has as part of its core objectives the growth and development of societies in which it operates through constant engagement with its critical stakeholders.
MTN considers relationship as a core value to the success of its business. The company embarks on periodic vendors forum, dealers forum and other informal engagements across the length and breadth of the country to interact, stock-take and brainstorm with its critical stakeholders.
Last year during the Ashanti fest in Ashanti region the opportunity was created for MTN top management and staff to interact with vendors to understand their challenges and also explore new and innovative ways of doing business better.
February 23 was another opportune moment for the MTN Traders Forum in Accra and the President, Executives and governing bodies of various Associations under the Ghana Union of Traders Association thronged to Alisa to once again honor invitation from the Mobile Telecommunications Network, MTN.
Present at the ceremony were high profile personalities like Chairman of the Ghana Union of Traders, Chairman and Executives of the Electrical Association of Ghana, President and Executives of Circle Traders Association, President and Executives of Abosey Okai Traders Association, and distinguished association members of other bodies.
From the Yello Family were the General Manager of MTN Business Solution, Eric Nsarkoah, General Manager for Procurement, Evelyn Sam, Naana Amegashie, Snr Manager Consumer Marketing , and other top-level managers and staff.
Other external partner present was Managing Director for Ghanabuy.com Mr Abaeku.
The forum offered a unique platform for the two parties to address lingering issues bothering on their everyday business activities. MTN Business, MTN Mobile Money, Ghanbuy.com all used the opportunity to discuss how the traders can take advantage of the use of the internet to facilitate their businesses through the use of cheap online communication that can go a long way to reduce cost, also on how they can use the internet for research, to send invoices and quotation to save time and money, video skyping, ability to enjoy bulk SMS sim offering from MTN amongst others.
Mrs Naana Amegashie, Senior Manager for Consumer Marketing aptly facilitated the program and responded to critical issues bothering on her organizations operations.
This eventually caught the attention of both the CEO of the Ghana Union of Traders Association Mr Ofori, Mr Obeng President of the Electrical Association of Ghana and President of Abossey Okai traders Association who could not hide their admiration for such a wonderful interaction and took turns to congratulate MTN.
Mr Ofori, GUTA President described as first ever in the history of the country for any corporate entity to be able to bring such a crop of key executives and members of the Traders Association of Ghana under one roof, he also used the opportunity to assure MTN that this engagement was very useful and timely as it would help them understand MTN business and be in a better position to tell MTN what they also need to continue doing.
The forum entailed a lot of discussions covering areas such as Network Quality & Expansion, Sales & Distribution, Capital injections, Marketing campaigns and opportunities, Customer service, Mobile money, MTNs challenges with fibre cuts and so on. The traders could not hide their feelings after the forum and stated clearly that the interactions have helped to dispel some nagging issues they harbored about MTN hitherto and encouraged MTN to focus more on network quality.
So open was the forum to such an extent that, almost every question that was asked had some area specialist present to respond to it. Several questions were asked and the questions cut across all sections of the companys operations.
The questions were mainly on areas such as roaming bills, Sim Registration, Price war, Mobile Money, the traders left the forum with better understanding and appreciation of MTNs operations and called for more future collaborations and partnership opportunities.
