The Ghana Revenue Authority is hoping to significantly improve tax compliance especially among lower rate tax payers.
Currently tax compliance is low among the target group because of poor record keeping and loopholes in tax administration.
The Ghana Revenue Authority is automating the tax collection system to reduce cost and generate more revenue.
Kwesi Gyimah, a Deputy Commissioner at the Ghana Revenue Authority, large tax payers comply with the payment of the taxes vis--vis the small tax payers.
He said the problem can be blamed squarely on the lack of good book-keeping processes.
On the average we will say that for those businesses that have registered and file their returns on a monthly basis, the compliance is encouraging. With the reforms and the kind of education that we are doing, we believe that compliance will grow.
Mr Gyimah also said the Ghana Revenue Authority will roll out series of programmes to streamline tax administration and increase revenue.
