President John Dramani Mahama has tasked Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Nayon Bilijo not to concentrate all his effort in distributing premix fuel but work to improve the fishing industry.
He cautioned that he is not a “Minister for premix fuel distribution” and should be guided by that.
Advising the new Minister during his swearing in at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, President Mahama encouraged him to endeavor to be innovative to ensure that the fishing industry is revived.
He explained that he had to separate the Ministry of Fisheries from Agriculture to “give focus on Fisheries. More than a million of our people are involved in the Fisheries industry and we consider the importance of fisheries as a resource to this country. We thought that it will be important to have a Minister who concentrates on that sector.”
President Mahama admonished the new Minister to grow the industry to ensure he impacts positively on the country’s economy.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Nayon Bilijo has promised to do his best ensuring that the fishery industry is improved.
He tells Citi News, his priority will be to work to make Ghana fish sufficient and revive aquaculture.
