Mr Peter Jones, the British High Commissioner on Monday described Ghana’s oil and gas industry as a growing market that offers substantial opportunities for UK companies to do business.

He has therefore called for deployment of highly developed skills to utilize the country’s gas reserves.

“With oil production in Ghana expected to rise to half a million barrels a day over the next decade and significant investment from the Government, exploitation of the country’s considerable gas reserves will require an influx of high-level expertise,” he said.

He was speaking at a reception organised by Penwell Corporation and 2H Offshore.

Representatives of Penwell Corporation, a business entity, are in the country to participate in a three-day conference and exhibition scheduled to take place from March 19 to March 21.

The 17th Annual Offshore West Africa conference is expected to address key technology and development issues for the West African offshore oil and gas market through a comprehensive educational programme.

It would is on the theme: “Deepwater Discoveries, Emerging Opportunities.”

Mr Jones expressed the hope that the conference and exhibition would provide a unique networking opportunity for attendees to share technology and address issues with experts in their fields.

The conference programme includes case studies, local content as well as a showcase of technologies and services from global and regional oil and gas companies.

Mr Tom Fowler, Senior Vice President of Penwell Corporation expressed excitement towards the event, saying that Ghana had become the centre to some of the largest offshore projects in the region. He said he was hopeful the event would attract much patronage.
