Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Isaac Adjei Mensah has asked road contractors not to despair over governments indebtedness to them but rather continue executing their contracts.
He said government will settle all outstanding indebtedness to the contractors as has been the practice and that the present situation should not sour the cordial relationship between the government and the contractors.
He was responding to calls by the road contractors association who say the governments inability to pay for executed jobs was killing their jobs and driving them out of business.
Mr. Adjei Mensah told Asempa FM that government had not deliberately reneged on its commitments to the contractors, saying the situation only requires patience as the times are difficult.
The government admits being indebted to the contractors, but as is the norm, we pay for the contracts from time to time and award new contracts so by all means we will pay them, he said.
