Prices of tomatos and onions went up 100 per cent in the week to Friday while that of yam is stable, the GNA Esoko survey has shown.
A paint container of tomatoes, which was sold at GH10.00 last week, is now being sold this week at GH20.00 while onion had also been increased from GH15.00 to GH30.00 at the previous close.
Also the price of a five-kilogram bag of foreign rice increased from GH27 to GH30.
The price of three tubers of medium size yam is, however, unchanged at last week's closing price of GH5.00.
Some of the market women explained to GNA market watchers that steep rise in the prices of onion and tomato is attributable to short supply because this is the off-season for the two commodities.
A GNA market survey conducted in the two main Aboabo and the Tamale Central markets showed mixed prices of other commodities some of which remained stable and others increased or decreased.
