Government Signs MoU For Affordable Houses

The Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pumptech, a Tamale-based firm to construct 21,600 affordable houses in Tamale.

According to the MoU, the houses would be delivered within the next one year with two-bedroom self-contained going for sale at GH¢ 20,000.

Mr Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development signed on behalf of government whiles Mr Osman Sahanoon, Managing Director of Pumptech, signed on behalf of his firm in Tamale on Tuesday.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr Julius Debrah, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern Regional Minister.

Mr Vanderpuye said it formed part of the Tamale Housing Scheme to provide affordable houses to the people of the countryside.

He said the project would be replicated across other districts of the country to enable all to benefit. He assured that government was committed to working to provide more houses at affordable rates to reduce the country’s housing deficit.

Mr Debrah urged Pumptech to work according to deadlines to ensure that the houses were completed on time.

Alhaji Limuna said the Tamale Housing Scheme was aimed at helping the real rural people to acquire their own houses at affordable rates.

Mr Sahanoon said his firm would use local technology to construct the houses.
