The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the management of savings and loans companies to make sure that their activities are regulated by the law.

This, he said, was important to promote discipline and transparency in the financial sector.

The Asantehene made the call when officials of the Golden Pride Savings and Loans (GPSL), led by its Chairman, Mr. Kwarko Mensah Gyakari, paid a courtesy call on him at his Manhyia Palace.

They were there to announce the company’s decision to inaugurate its Kumasi branch.

GPSL was established by the Ghana Mines Workers Union (GMWU) two years ago and has its head office in Obuasi.

It currently has seven branches and these are spread across four regions – Ashanti, Greater Accra, Western and Brong-Ahafo.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu urged them to adopt best practices and strengthen its internal control systems to grow.

He again asked the mine workers to work hard to keep the mining industry going.

He said he was negotiating with some foreign investors to set up a technical university in Obuasi, something he noted would be of tremendous benefit to the nation.

Mr. Gyakari said they had plans to establish strong presence in all the 10 regions.
