Moneygram Essay Winners Receive Prizes

“I am so happy I won this competition. My mother is also very happy, she will use the prize money for my education at the Senior High level.” These were the words of Hillary Yayra Ackah, 1st prize winner of the 2015 MoneyGram Back to School Essay competition.

Hillary who took home a cash prize of GHC 3,500 and MoneyGram school souvenirs was so emotional after she read her winning essay during the presentation ceremony. Hillary and her fellow winners wrote on the essay topic “What will you do for your school with GHC10,000?.”

Hillary’s school, Osu Home JHS was presented with a prize of GHC10,000 to support the library project outlined in her winning essay.

Thirteen other winners from schools in Accra, Sogakofe, Berekum, Kumasi, Sunyani & Suhum also received prizes and MoneyGram souvenirs.  

The second (Irene Mensah Aboagye) and third (Harriet Kyeremaa Asomah) prize winners, both of Bishop Owusu Girls School, Berekum also received GHc 3,000 and GHc 2,500 respectively while the rest of the award winners took home GHc 1,000 each.

The MoneyGram Back to School Essay competition invites basic school children between the ages of 12 and 16 years to share their views on a given topic. The competition also seeks to encourage these young intellectuals to improve their writing skills.

Mrs. Gifty Dwomoh of Access Bank admonished the pupils not to be complacent but aim high in life to make the efforts of their parents very worthwhile. Mrs. Dwomoh mentioned MoneyGram and partner banks have donated several school items to deprived schools in various regions. She praised parents and teachers for their hardwork and dedication in ensuring the successful education of pupils in their care.

The presentation was graced by MoneyGram partner banks, head teachers and teachers from winning schools.

MoneyGram provides remittance services in partnership with 22 partner banks and is available in over 2000 locations nationwide.
