President of the Association of Ghana Industries, Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke has praised Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for proposing to streamline VAT and other taxes to make them more simple and welcoming for business owners to pay.
Speaking on Joy News’ "PM Express" show, Dr. Ayim-Darke expressed optimism about the proposal and noted that it is welcoming for businesses while, at the same time, raking in more revenues for the State since many more Ghanaians will be captured into the tax net.
"This proposal makes us happy because it deals with some fundamental challenges we have complained about over the years. With this decision, businesses can breathe sighs of relief since the burdensome nature of our tax system is worrying us. We welcome this proposal", Dr. Ayim-Darke proclaimed.
"We have, over the period expressed concern about the VAT and we say in the case of the VAT, the imposition of the VAT structure has cascading effects, and it needs to be streamlined to make businesses competitive", he added.
"Bawumia’s ideas and vision are laudable. We are only waiting for the measures he would adopt to implement them. They are feasible and we are happy about that", Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke further opined.
The President of AGI further emphasized; "We shall support Dr. Bawumia to perfect his visions so that we can all benefit from them as business owners."
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia shared his vision to the Ghanaian people on Wednesday, 7th February, 2024 at an event held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and in line with his vision, he promised to do away with a number of taxes, also change the course of his governance if he is elected to lead Ghana as President.

Bawumia may not be perfect. However nobody can deny the fact that the man has ideas. His main challenge is that what he was thinking pre-2016 was not same way his master and his people were thinking. A drivers mate who has been collecting Lorry fare on behalf of his master, i.e. Driver. Having realized that the Lorry tyres are worn out, he , the drivers mate goes to a Lorry tyres dealer to inform him that very soon he and his master will be coming to buy new tyres , not knowing his master is intending to sell the vehicle. Anytime the Lorry tyre dealer see the drivers mate, he will call him a liar for failing to come and buy his tyres, but any insider who knew what happened will not blame the drivers mate. There is news of an impending reshuffle , it's needless. This cannot be the reshuffle the good people of Ghana called for much realist. What positive impact will a reshuffle do 9 months to elections? Jack Toronto, don't fetch too much of the soup so that we can all eat the fufu till the end, you said no. Now we have plenty of fufu in the bowl, no soup.
