So soon the President, Professor J.E.A Mills would present his second state of the Nation Address to the Parliament of Ghana. It is expected that the President would roll out a litany of hope for the people of the country especially the youth, marginalized and poor people.

In the area of employment which in my opinion is one of the most critical problems facing the nation, it would be refreshing for President Mills to come out with a clear cut programme in this direction. A whole lot of Ghanaians view this government as their saviour after suffering for a long time without hope, jobs, money, access to education, health and other services.

It would not be bad if opportunities are created for the teaming youths who have completed universities, polytechnics and other schools without jobs and are currently going through untold hardships. One area that the youth need support is scholarship opportunities to study outside or even within Ghana. There are many students who want to pursue tertiary education but due to the expensive nature of fees, many of them are unable to access higher education.

The president would also be expected to announce the extent to which his Ambassadors to other countries have been able to bring investors into Ghana as he commissioned them to do when he swore them into office. The traffic situation in the big cities of Ghana especially that of Accra and in Kumasi is still a headache which the nation will be glad to hear what is being done to address the problem.

Agricultural sector is the main stay of Ghana’s economy and therefore it cannot be left out. The president will be expected to roll out the achievements made out there so far and what the government will be doing immediately to support our farmers to expand their yield. Farmers need fertilizers, credit facilities, market for their produce in order to make agric more attractive to the youth.

The energy sector is another important area that the nation needs to be assured of sustainable power. The nation should also know about the progress or otherwise of the Bui Dam project which is believed to be under construction. Other areas are salaries, inflation, interest rates, water, environment, education, health, local governance, government expenditure and income among others.
Finally it is expected that the State of Nation address will bring good news to all Ghanaians.
