Dear Editor,
I read and also heard in the media that President Thomas Yayi Boni of Benin recently decorated our President, John Dramani Mahama, with The Great Cross of the National Order of Benin.

According to reports, the award, which was presented on behalf of the People and Government of Benin, was the highest in the national awards and credentials of the Republic of Benin.

The report says it was in recognition of President Mahamas exemplary leadership and significant contribution to the deepening and consolidation of democracy governance in Ghana.

It was a good move but was it prudent for Mr. Yayi Boni to do so? Please dont get me wrong, because I am not against our President being conferred with honours. I just want to raise a few issues about the role played by President Boni when there was tension in Ghana after the declaration of 2012 election results which ended up in court.

Was it not this same Yayi Boni who came to Ghana as an Africa Union Chairman then and wanted to force Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP to concede defeat in December, in spite of the irregularities the opposition was complaining about?

Everybody knows what went on in court and the kind of judgement delivered. Nana Akufo-Addo, having Ghana at heart, has said although he did not agree with the judgement, he would accept the courts decision all the same.

Therefore, for Yayi Boni to be selective on issues concerning Ghana shows that he was not necessarily acting in our interest and we must start watching some of these leaders.

By the action of the Beninoire President, he has shown that he is biased against the opposition and may not necessarily have Ghana at heart, which is typical of African leaders who always protect their colleagues.
