The recent revelations by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia with regards to the cost involved in the construction of the official residence for the country’s vice president and subsequent confirmation by engineering firm AESL show how the previous National Democratic Congress government lavishly spent the taxpayers’ money.
But, this certainly does not come as any surprise to many Ghanaians who had critically followed development in the county under the administration of the immediate past Mahama-led NDC government.
As we had always been pointing out, former President John Dramani Mahama and his functionaries only understood governance as the best means of creating opportunities for family and friends to amass wealth at the expense of the very people who voted them into office to protect their interest.
That was the reason why they could take a decision to commit the nation to the financial obligation of nearly $14 million in exchange for just the residence of the country’s vice president, at a time the nation was faced with a lot of pressing needs.
And the fact that the contract for the construction of the residence was sole-sourced means those behind the project knew what was at stake for them from day one: an opportunity to plunder the nation for their personal financial gains.
What made the whole thing unusually pathetic was that even though the people of Ghana had elected a president to protect their resources and ensure their prudent utilization for their collective good, he saw no need to do that.
Rather, he allowed his character to enhance the ‘create, loot and share’ enterprise for his alleged personal benefit, without taking a moment to think about the ramifications of this unpatriotic attitude on the general good of the country.
It was this unbridled desire to amass wealth that saw public officers like Stephen Opuni, the sacked Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocobod, handling the affairs of that strategic state institution as it there was not tomorrow.
It was very difficult to understand what could motivate Dr Opuni to sign contracts worth over $512 million without going through any competitive bidding, and during the period a new party had been elected and was in the process of taking over the administration of the country. The only motivation was unbridled greed for money and nothing more, nothing less.
This was the state of affairs in the country, as far as the handling of the nation’s finances were concerned under the watch of former President Mahama.
Even though the NDC came into the political scene as avid preachers of integrity, probity and accountability, the party in government under former President Mahama convinced everybody beyond all reasonable doubt that they only came into office to loot the nation.
Having succeeded in the unpatriotic and evil agenda of looting the nation, what the good people of Ghana now expect from the Nana Akufo-Addo government is to ensure that their actions are tested against the laws of the country and those whose conducts fall short of the laws punished accordingly.

Tweeaaa! Roce Koran. Is your name spelt "Rose" or "Roce" and the "Koran" also "Korang"? Don't attempt to re-event the wheel. Mills persecuted and prosecuted a lot of NPP members. Your have conveniently forgotten when he said "he was not interested in the GHC51m paid Woyome but those who caused the payment" sarcastically pointing accusing figures at NPP. So pay back time is around whether you like it or yes. NPP now has the platform.
ndc is just how the Bible describes the "devil" that it is like a ***barred word*** who comes in the night to steal and destroy. Any time Ghana is about to take off after clearing the mess always caused by ndc, they will do everything to win political power just to loot and rape the coffers and resources. Ghanaians should therefore keep ndc in opposition till God knows when if we want to progress. Simple and pure.
Massa; the flagstaaf construction was a government to government project with no cost to Ghana government and like the Chinese the Indians who built it brought in their own key staff to oversee the project besides it is the likes of Opuni ;Dzifa Ativor ; Jon Mahama ; Ayariga ;Elvis Afriyie ; SipA Yankey; Mr Mould and others that the special prosecutor have being set up to deal with these corrupt activit ; Opuni will end up in court make no mistake ; the wheels of the law grings slowly but when it starts ; you cannot STOP it because it like a huge tanker attempting to Stop it about 2 to 3 miles to stop ; WAIT AND WATCH THIS SPACE !!!!!!
Fighting corruption means the government should do forensic audit of all 'huge' projects and make sure those who're found to have s to len monies are brought to book. I mean ALL-be you the president, minister of state, DCE or what-have-you. Some Ghanaians voted for NPP because of that assurance, and Prez. Akuffo Addo cannot renege on that. We're anxiously waiting for this. It was a campaign promise that has to be fulfilled by all means, otherwise Ghanaians will not forgive NPP-FINITO!!
NDC came to create, lo0t, and share! Not only lo0ting. The only thing Ghanaians can do to save themselves is to keep the party in perpetual opposition and jail all those who indulged in corruption to fleece the state. If this suggestion of mine can be implemented, Ghana will be a better place to be again. I have not seen any political party that is so eevil and inept like NDC. Whilst even small parties were even trying to have a free and fair election, ONLY NDC was trying to rig it. The reason is because, without rigging, they can't win. I WAS ONE PERSON WHO REITERETAD ON THIS PLATFORM THAT NDC ONLY WINS IN 8 OUT OF 10 REGIONS WHEN EC RIGS THE ELECTIONS FOR THEM. They grew so arrogant to the extent of saying NPP commands only one and a half regions. Now to their chagrin, NANA won in 6 out of 10 regions!!
roce koran, are you saying that President Mills did not haul as many as 17 npp former ministers to court. ? THE NDC COULDNT PROVE THE CHARGES OF CORRUPTION LEVELLED AGAINT THE NPP MINISTERS IN COURT. IT IS ONE THING LYING THROUGH YOUR TEETH TO WIN POWER AND ANOTHER THING PROVING YOUR CASE IN COURT. ROCE KORAN YOU ARE ONLY DEFENDING WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN. YOU ARE ALSO A LOOTER.
Statesman should tell us how much the Jubilee/Flagstaff house constructed by the Indians cost. If Opuni has done anything criminal pls send him to court. Doing to Opuni what they did to Tsatsu. NPP for you. Mills did everything possible even at his own peril(constant insults from JJ) to stop this vindictive cycle of witch-hunting. If NDC are looters, then NPP in 2001 to 2008 are what?
