It is becoming very clear that the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, speaks without recourse to what is expected of him as a honourable member.

He was at the height of misconduct and emotional cruelty when he spewed unguarded and baseless allegations against Ibrahim Mahama on live TV. Apart from the shameful conduct of the honourable member, I also found the unprofessional conduct of the host of the Badwam programme on Adom TV, Omanhene Kwabena Asante, as highly unacceptable. He allowed Kennedy Agyapong, who has demonstrated over the years he has an inherent bitterness and envy towards Mr Ibrahim Mahama, to malign him without any basis.

Increasingly, discerning Ghanaians are becoming fed up with the baseless claims he always put out in the media. Mr Ibrahim Mahama is not afraid of the law. The honourable MP is arrogantly claiming to be more powerful than the President, through his actions and inaction.

On that same TV programme, he endorsed the unacceptable behaviour of the lawless vigilante groups, the Invisible Forces and the Delta Forces. These two groups are clearly challenging the authority of the President by violently attacking innocent Ghanaians and individuals appointed by President Akufo-Addo against their wish.

The behaviour of the honourable member is clearly against the Standing Orders of parliament. He has developed an inherent bitterness and envy towards hardworking entrepreneurs in Ghana.

This is what he threatened on Adom TV’s Badwam programme last Thursday: ‘’I will take in poison and kill myself if Ibrahim Mahama is not jailed. He should watch and hear me well, I will take in poison and die if Ibrahim is not jailed.”

The statement made by this gentleman (MP) should have called for action from parliament, if indeed they are truly against the growing number of suicide cases in Ghana. He spoke as if he is an authority in the judiciary. The laws of this country are not written by Kennedy Agyapong. The law is applied and enforced through the judicial system. Stop wasting time and do whatever you want to do.

It is important to point out that Mr Ibrahim Mahama is not and never a product of crony capitalism. Several unsubstantiated allegations were made against him during the tenure of his elder brother as vice-president and, later, president which have all turned out to be false. The recent lie that was put out was the issue of Universal Merchant Bank. If my memory serves me correctly, Kennedy Agyapong and many NPP assigns were all over the place with claims that Merchant Bank, now UMB, had been sold to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, in spite of the fact that management of UMB vehemently denied that deliberate falsehood of Kennedy Agyapong and other NPP assigns.

A lot of such lies have been peddled by them. Just last week, the management and owners of UMB paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House, upon which the management announced a partnership deal with government to inject $100m into the One- District-One-Factory project over a period of time. Can Kennedy Agyapong and some of the NPP assigns who bastardised Mr Ibrahim Mahama for no apparent reason come out and tell us who the owners or owner of UMB is. The good Lord who bestowed grace on decent and selfless people like Mr Ibrahim Mahama will continue to expose them to discerning Ghanaians.

I truly agree with Mr Ibrahim Mahama for not following individuals like Kennedy Agyapong into the gutter, because when a person is chronically bitter, they are often in an antagonistic mindset and looking for a fight.

If they can’t find one, they will think nothing of putting up their dukes and provoking one. From a bitter person’s point of view, it’s the world that’s done them wrong and deserves the full expression of their blameless wrath. A bitter soul simply cannot see beyond their immediate wants. It’s all about them and they are inherently emotionally needy. He does not need to come out in public to diffuse most of the claims made by such detractors. On so many occasions Kennedy Agyapong would speak ill of Mr Ibrahim Mahama in public but call him privately and apologise – that is the level of dishonesty he exhibits.

I remember the only time he directly addressed Kennedy Agyapong in public on his baseless claims was when he granted an interview to Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on Okay FM in December 2015 and also exclusively spoke to the Al-Hajj newspaper in January this year. This is what he said: “Go and tell him [Ken] that I can be ruthless than he thinks he is, but I just respect myself, my family and Ghanaians, hence I have restrained myself following him into the gutter in spite of his numerous unsubstantiated and wild allegations and, most of the time, pure lies.”

“Tell Ken that by the grace of God I have long been blessed before John [Mahama] became vice-president and later president… Is it my fault that my [elder] brother climbed to those heights? ...Is it my fault that I am where I am today? ...I am not God to determine others’ future and I am content with what God has gifted… I don’t compete with everyone, neither do I envy those before me and even those after me. It is God’s wish.”

Mr Ibrahim Mahama is not afraid of the law. He has not done anything proven to be unlawful. Governance is a serious business and detractors like Kennedy Agyapong should stop the empty threats and envy and help the government to fulfil their monstrous promises.

Lastly, the speaker of parliament and the president must reprimand evasive MPs like Kennedy Agyapong. Parliament must protect the institution from such loose statements made by such MPs.

Ghana deserves better!!!
