Not long ago, the Ex President met a section of galameyers during his tour and made a serious comment about those arrested for illegal mining activities. In his comment, he said, “Eye Zu! When we win power, all those arrested for engaging in galamsey would be given amnesty for them to come back.

We believe that whatever law they flouted, they’re remorseful so we shall free them and give them another chance to work as galamseyers” Mahama promised.
This kind of utterances will help the country to progress, we all know the bad effect of galamey on our cocoa production and water bodies.

The cocoa industry could suffer a devastating blow with a grim future if the current trajectory of destruction brought on by illegal miners is not reversed.
The illegal miners openly expose their operations to significant COCOBOD investments in the nation’s cocoa-growing regions.
If our mineral laws are not abode by, then Ghana is going to lose big time since cocoa is one of the major crops we earn our foreign income from.

During the 2020 elections campaign, this same Ex-President sponsored Kwaku Boahen a known NDC executive to Cocoa grown areas to encourage illegal miners to continue their activities immediately they win power. This behaviour is unpatriotic and needs to cease from.

Most of our river bodies have been destroyed by illegal miners, and there was a survey which states if illegal mining is not checked Ghana will soon start importing drinking water, which is a big threat to our economy.
The Ex-President has to be concerned about the dangers looming and start thinking about the next generation than using Ghana as an electoral tool.

... Signed...
Edmund Kyei
Asokwa Constituency 1st Vice Chairman
Member of NPP Communication Team
