The city of Chicago has billed Jussie Smollett for $130,000 for the police probe into his case, ten times the amount he forfeited in bond on Tuesday in exchange for having the charges against him dropped.
The money will be used to recoup overtime costs for officers who worked round-the-clock to solve the case after Smollett described it as a hate crime.
'When (Smollett) does pay the city back on just what the taxpayers have fronted, in that memo section (of the check), he can write, "I’m sorry and I’m accountable for what I’ve done,"' Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, a stinging reference to the check Smollett allegedly gave two Nigerian brothers to attack him in which he described as being for 'personal training'.
