MAN, 24, has done the unthinkable by butchering his own mother to death and inflicting several cutlass wounds on his elder brother.

Kwabena Sekyere is said to have gone berserk at their Jericho residence, a suburb of Kenyasi No.2 in the Asutifi North District of the Brong Ahafo Region last Friday after his brother, Kofi Nti, had stopped him from butchering the familys flock of sheep.

The Kenyasi District Crime Officer, Detective Inspector Emmanuel Abban Ashie, confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that Kwabena Sekyere, now in prison custody, mercilessly butchered his 65-year-old mother, Akua Konadu, when she intervened to prevent him from venting his spleen on his elder brother.

The gory incident happened on the night of Friday, November 15, 2013 around 11pm at Kenyasi No.2.

Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Detective Inspector Ashie said earlier on the said day, Yaw Ampate, a son of the deceased, went to town and returned home by 9:15pm and started making noise.

One of his brothers, John Fosu, asked him to restrain himself, but Yaw Ampate picked a quarrel with him and immediately removed a pair of scissors from his pocket and stabbed him.

According to the police, John Fosu attempted to report the incident to the police but their mother, now deceased, emerged at the scene and advised him not to do so because they were all brothers.

After ceasing fire, they all retired to bed. However, a few hours later around 11pm, Kwabena Sekyere who was sleeping in the same room with Kofi Nti, picked a machete and moved out of the room.

Kofi Nti, who wondered what his brother was doing with the machete at that odd hour, decided to go out and observed what his brother was up to. He surprisingly found Kwabena Sekyere in the pen of their herd of sheep inflicting cutlass wounds on the poor sheep like nobodys business.

For Kofi Nti attempting to stop him , Kwabena Sekyere turned his wrath on him and inflicted cutlass wounds on various parts of his body.

Their 65-year old mother, who was then asleep, woke up to the nasty scene after being aroused by the shouts of Kofi Nti. She then cried out to Kwabena Sekyere to stop killing his brother.

This intervention by the mother angered Kwabena, who proceeded to vent his spleen on his poor mother, butchering her mercilessly. The wicked son inflicted several cutlass wounds on the back of his mothers head, nose, mouth, and nearly cut off her hand.

One Samuel Ofosu, a neighbour moved to the scene and with the assistance of others, rushed the severely wounded woman to the St Elizabeth Hospital at Hwidiem where she was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival.

The police patrol team quickly moved to the scene after a report, but the suspect had then fled the scene. He was later arrested by the police.

The suspect, Kwabena Sekyere, who has been charged with causing unlawful harm and murder, has since been remanded in prison custody by the Goaso Circuit Court and will re-appear on December 16, while his brother, Yaw Ampate, who earlier stabbed his brother, John Fosu, has been sentenced to a three-month prison term.

Meanwhile, Brong Ahafo Regional Police PRO, ASP Christopher Tawiah, has advised parents not to shield the evil deeds of their children. He also advised members of the general public to give prompt information to the police to prevent such happenings.
