The family of a 28-year-old taxi driver who was shot dead by unknown assailants for allegedly dating another man’s girlfriend are appealing to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Alhassan, to assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The demise of Kofi Amagyei which occurred at Akyem Kwarbeng in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region has since left shivers in the spines of friends and family.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue in Kumasi pending investigations.

The Daily Heritage checks reveal that the assailants shot the cabbie driver through the window of his room in the pelvis while he was asleep with the said girlfriend at 1:00 a.m.

The deceased was immediately rushed to Enyiresi government Hospital near Anyinam but was later transferred to the Okomfo-Anokye Government Hospital by the family to undergo further treatment where he passed away.

Information gathered by the paper indicated that, the later Amagyei had earlier received death threats from the jealous rival who warned the deceased to stop making advances at his girlfriend.

The deceased, however, ignored the signals on grounds that the lady had assured him that, she was no longer in a relationship and was free to do what she wished.

According to reports, the man who threatened the life of the late Amagyei has relocated to an unknown location shortly after the incident.

The police officer in charge of Kwarbeng Police station, Inspector Osei Bonsu, confirming the incident said the girl at the centre of the controversy has been arrested and granted bail to assist in investigation.

He said the police would conduct autopsy on the remains to unravel the cause of the death.

Meanwhile, there is a manhunt for the suspects of the gruesome murder.
