Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has described terrorism and insurgency as alien to West Africa and warned that, if allowed to fester, the phenomenon will erode the gains made over the years.

Speaking at the 2014 first ordinary session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja-Nigeria, Vice President Amissah Arthur called on members to ensure that their constituents renounce religious extremists.

He said the Government of Ghana condemns in no uncertain terms, the kidnapping of more than two hundred school girls and pledged its solidarity and willingness to help halt the activities of Boko-Haram extremists.

The Vice President bemoaned the low rate of intra-regional trade and challenged the MPs, to pass legislations that would help re-invigorate trade among member states.

Earlier, Mr Amissah-Arthur laid a foundation stone for the construction of a ₦ 3.4 billion office complex for the ECOWAS Parliament.
