A shoemaker who desired to own a motorbike and therefore stole one Apsonic brand from a labourer�s house, has been sentenced to a six-year jail term in hard labour, by a circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region.
Solomon Effah from Akwatia in the Eastern Region, admitted that he stole the motorbike, estimated at 1,900 Ghana Cedis, belonging to Mr. Aminu Timbilla, a labourer at a gold mining company at Akwatia.
The presiding judge, Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong gave the sentence after Effah had corroborated the prosecutor�s case and the evidence adduced.
Inspector Essel briefed the court that in the evening of April 5, this year Mr. Timbilla parked his motorbike with registration number NR � 5017�12 in his house and went to town, but he could not find it when he returned.
Mr. Timbilla made a report to the police and on April 7, when Effah was enjoying a ride on the motorbike, he approached a police check point where he was apprehended.
The Inspector said Effah was escorted to the police station, and Mr. Timbilla was invited to
identify his motorbike.
