House Boy And Student In Court For Stealing

A house boy accused of stealing GH₵150,000 belonging to his master at Labone on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

John Osei-Acquah charged with stealing pleaded guilty and was remanded into Police custody.

An accomplice Alhassan Sumaila, a student, who allegedly collected part of the money for safe keeping is being held for possessing a stolen item.

Sumaila pleaded not guilty and was granted a bail of GH₵100,000 with three sureties.

Alhassan Failsal, another accomplice however managed to escape.

Osei-Acquah and Sumaila are expected to reappear before the court presided over by Ms Ellen Vivian Amoah on November 5 for the trial to commence.

The facts as presented by Chief Inspector Michael Jubiok are that the complainant, Mr Charles Yao- Mensah is a businessman residing at Labone, Accra.

Osei- Acquah resides with complainant. On September 19, this year one Michael, an employee of the complainant brought GH₵150,000 home and handed it over to the complainant.

Prosecution said the complainant kept the money in his wardrobe in the bedroom.

Chief Inspector Jubiok said on September 22, this year, Osei-Acquah went to clean the complainant’s bedroom and when he saw the money, he stole it and bolted away.

The following day, prosecution said Mr Yao-Mensah reported the matter to the Police and investigations led to the arrest of Osei-Acquah at Elubo.

Prosecution said during investigations, GH₵29,700 was retrieved from Osei-Acquah. Also investigation revealed that Osei-Acquah gave GH₵50,000 to Sumaila for safekeeping.

On October 3, this year, when Sumaila was arrested he also claimed that he gave the money to Failsal who is now at large to be given to Osei-Acquah who was then in police custody.

Prosecution said Faisal claimed he gave GH₵35,000 to his father, Mr Alhassan Malik and lied that armed robbers had robbed him of GH₵15,000.

Chief Inspector Jubiok said so far, GH₵64,700 had since been handed over to the complainant.
