A MAN whoallegedly stole a car battery at Fijai by-pass linking the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi with two colleagues has been beaten to death by an angry mob to serve as a deterrent to others.
The mob was said to have removed the battery of the taxi used for the operation and poured its content on the victim.
The area in question has been an unofficial parking space for heavy duty trucks which come to the metropolis to cart goods from the Takoradi Port to neighbouring countries.
According to some eyewitnesses, battery thieves succeeded in making away with about three batteries but luck, however, eluded the victim in question when in his attempt to steal a tarpaulin from a stationary Articulated Truck was arrested and given severe beatings.
A taxi with registration number WR 4712-12 which they allegedly hired has also been vandalized.
The taxi driver, Eric Koomson, 23, whose driver’s license has been retrieved from the car is said to have escaped with some bruises after he was assaulted. As at the time of filing this report, police had conveyed the remains to the morgue.
