Dangerous Robbers Grabbed

THE EASTERN regional police command has arrested three suspected dangerous weapon wielding armed robbers at their various hideouts in the region.

The suspects are a 57-year-old blacksmith, Yaw Bediako popularly known as Wofa Yaw and his two accomplices, Kwaku Adjei, also known as Abatsa, 22 and Kwaku Dautey.

However, two other suspects, Kwasivi alias Goslow and Thomas Kofi alias Obolo are on the run. The suspects were said to be preparing ahead of the Christmas festivity to rob unsuspecting residents.

Addressing the media at the Eastern regional police headquarters, the Eastern regional police Commander, DCOP Yaagy Akuriba said Wofa Yaw, who is the ring leader suspect was arrested at Bosomtwe near Boti falls in the Yilo Krobo District Assembly of the Eastern region.

During the arrest, two locally manufactured pistols, a machete, knife, an empty cartridge, and an unserviceable foreign pistol loaded with 0.22mm ammunition stacked in the gun were retrieved in his room.

The police also found a locally manufactured single barreled gun, a double muzzle, a locally manufactured single barreled gun; one unserviceable locally manufactured single barreled gun, two single barrel muzzles, four rounds chamber for locally manufactured revolver, uncompleted parts of manufactured revolvers and three live cartridges.

The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akuriba indicated that, two other persons, Dautey Kwaku popularly known as K and Kwame Agyei, also known as �Abatsa� were also arrested in connection with a case on November 12 and November 22 respectively.

He said a locally manufactured gun and an industrial cutter were also retrieved from Kwaku Dautey.

According to the Eastern regional Police Boss, the Police gathered intelligence about the operations of the ring leader who is alleged to be renting weapons to armed robbers for their operations, hence, the police started investigations and trailed the suspect for almost three weeks before they were apprehended.

DCOP Akuriba assured that all other accomplices will be arrested to face the law. He said the suspects are being processed for court.

He appealed to Ghanaians to be vigilant and report suspected criminals to the police to help reduce criminal activities in the region, especially, as the Christmas festivity approaches.
