For robbing three university students of their mobile phones and other electronic gadgets, Richard Agordo, unemployed, was yesterday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and the court, presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, convicted him on his plea.

The complainants (names withheld), are students of the University of Ghana, Legon, and Mount Crest University, both in Accra.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court that students of the universities have been regular victims of Agordo’s attacks.

He said on January 1, this year, the convict, together with Attah Kyei (now convict), attacked and robbed one Rosina of her properties during which Kyei was arrested but Agordo escaped.

He said thereafter, Agordo continued operating with another accomplice currently on the run.

The prosecutor said on March 18, Agordo and his accomplice, went to the University of Ghana Business School and attacked two of the complainants at gun- point, and ordered them to surrender their belongings, which they obliged by handing over their bags.

Chief Inspector Adu said the bags contained items including Sony Xperia and Nokia 720 Lumia phones, a Ghanaian passport, lecture notes, a Law of Tort textbook, cash and other items all totalling Gh¢6,467.

He said in the course of the robbery, Agordo and his accomplice inflicted wounds on the complainants, for which they received medical treatment.

He said on March 21, Agordo and Bright succeeded in robbing the third complainant at the same place. They shot but missed her when she resisted.

They then bolted away into a nearby bush but Agordo was arrested by the police the following day, when he went out to sell the booty.

He said a search of his room revealed some items belonging to the complainant.

Chief Inspector Adu said, the convict led the police into a bush near the electricity sub-station at Legon to retrieve a bag containing items robbed from the complainants.

The convict, he said, admitted the offence in his caution statement.
