The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a private security man, Isaac Agyapong, to 15 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for robbing a woman at knife point.
He had attacked and forcibly seized the handbag of the victim which contained cash of GH¢70, mobile phone, footwear and beads on October 21 at Akrantiebesa, near Konongo.
The sentence was handed down by the judge, Mr Fredrick Tetteh, after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikrong Peasah said the woman, Eunice Agyeiwaa Gyamfi, was returning to the house from Konongo at about 4am when Agyapong struck.
He leapt out from behind the bush brandishing a knife and ordered that she surrendered everything on her.
The prosecution said, fearing for her safety, she let go of the handbag she was carrying, which contained her cash, phone and other items.
Agyapong fled the scene after the crime, but the victim formally reported the attack on her to the police.
He said police investigations led to his arrest and the stolen items recovered from his room during a search.
