The  Tamale Circuit Court has remanded two teachers in prison custody for alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl which resulted in a pregnancy.

The two suspects are David Annanga and Fredrick Akoto.

David, who is alleged to have defiled the victim on three different occasions, twice in Fredrick’s room and the other at a school computer laboratory, has been charged with two counts of defilement and illegal abortion, while Fredrick, an accomplice of David, who is alleged to have offered his room for the act and act as an uncle of the victim for the illegal abortion, has also been charged for permitting the defilement of a child on his premises and abetment of illegal abortion.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them and would therefore, reappear before the court presided over by Mr Justice William Twumasi on January 25.

 Facts

According to the prosecution, the accused persons, David and Fredrick, are both teachers with the former being the class teacher of the victim.

In June last year, David asked the victim to assist him buy some items from the market. Even though the victim obliged, David rather lured her on to his motorbike and went to Kukuo, a suburb in Tamale and had sex with her in the room of his accomplice, Fredrick.

After the act, David sent the victim back to the school and warned her not to tell anyone.

Later in August, the same year, when the victim attended vacation classes organised by the school, David again took the girl to Fredrick’s house where he had sex with her.

Two weeks later, the suspect repeated the act with the victim at the school’s computer laboratory.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Lorencia Tiabahe, the victim later got pregnant but did not know about it until November 30, 2015.

Fredrick (David’s accomplice) went to the classroom of the victim and invited her to the headmistress’ office where the two suspects demanded to know whether she was pregnant.

They subsequently compelled her to provide a sample of her urine for a test.

After realising the girl was five months pregnant, they requested for the pregnancy to be aborted.

The victim returned home bleeding as a result of the abortion. She then decided  to inform her father who reported the matter to the police who issued her with a police medical form.

David  went into hiding but was eventually arrested together with his accomplice.
