Two persons have been arrested by officials of the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) for allegedly attempting to export substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, popularly known as Wee, through a courier service in Accra.

The suspects are Daniel Newman Teye, 32, and Kwasi Kumi Otenpong, alias Timmy, 29.

They were arrested on Thursday, August 30, 2018, by NACOB officials.

They allegedly packed the said substance in a small speaker and presented it to officials of the courier service.

The package, when scanned, was found to contain some foreign materials.

When the speaker was carefully dismantled in the presence of Teye, it was found to contain three small parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

According to a statement from the Communications and Media Relations Unit of NACOB, Teye, during interrogation, denied knowledge of the speaker and its contents.

He mentioned Timmy as the owner of the items.

Teye subsequently led a team of officers to the residence of Timmy at New Dawhenya.

When a search was conducted in his presence, five parcels and six wrappers of the suspected cannabis were also found.

Upon interrogation, Timmy admitted ownership of the speaker and its contents, as well as others found in his room.

He also confessed that he is a regular user of the narcotic, and also sells them to prospective buyers.

The statement revealed that the two are currently in custody assisting in investigations.

Meanwhile, the substances have been forwarded to the Ghana Standards Authority for forensic examination.
