Teachers urged to instil self discipline in school children

The Kwahu West Municipal Director of Education, Mr Noah Agyare Dwamena, has urged teachers to instil self-discipline in school children and inculcate the virtues that would help raise the image of their schools and the community.

He urged Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), Churches and Board of Directors of Basic Schools, to enforce moral training among school children.

Mr Dwamena was addressing an opening ceremony of a four-day Inter- Pentecost Schools Quiz and games festival at Nkawkaw.

He advised private schools to register with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Offices for proper monitoring of their activities, and they should guard against illegal collection of fees.

Mr Dwamena commended the Pentecost Church for their contribution towards education in the country and urged the participants to comport themselves to make the festival a success.

The Director of Pentecost Social Services, Elder Dr. Yao Yeboah, said the church had established 70 schools throughout the country including two Senior High Schools, two Girls Vocational Schools, a Boys Technical Institute, a University College and a number of Health Institutions in the country.

He said it was the church's contribution to supplement government's efforts to train the nation's human resource personnel.

Dr Yeboah noted that the potentials of the children could only be exploited if conscious efforts were made to train and expose them to such competitions for them to develop their talents in the various sports discipline.

The Headmaster of the Nkawkaw Pentecost Schools, Mr Bernard Ofosu Yeboah, announced that 240 basic school children from five Pentecost Basic schools in Kumasi, Takoradi, Medina in Accra and Nkawkaw would participate in the festival.

He said they would be competing in boys and girl's football and table tennis, and also participate in Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science and French quiz programmes and undertake an excursion at the lake side at Adawso.
