As Part of its commitment to support capacity development among Ghanaian youth for sustainable development, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has donated mining survey equipment estimated at seventy-five thousand Ghana cedis to the Geomatic Survey Department of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at a recently held ceremony in Tarkwa.
The items include Sokkia Total Station (Set 5F), Sokkia Total Station (Set 3B), Sokkia Total Station (Set 5A), Trimble total Station (3600series), Ten prisms, Staff clamps, one Tripod and Stereoscope.
Receiving the items, Registrar of the University, E.k. Beddai, thanked Iduapriem Mine for the swift response to their request. He stated that the equipment will help the students have hands on experience in their programme of study before venturing unto the job market.
He used the occasion to thank Iduapriem Mine for their partnership and help over the years in the career development of its students and the university community. He promised that the equipment will be put to good use for its intended purposes.
Senior Manager Sustainability of Iduapriem Mine, Emmanuel Baidoo said Iduapriem Mine will continue to contribute to efforts of the University in developing human resource base for the mining industry considering that Umat is the only specialized mining institution in the sub-region committed to developing professionals for the mining industry. He re-iterated that the Mine is committed to sustainable development through partnership.
Present at the ceremony were the some staff of the university and Iduapriem Mine. AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has over the years provided educational support to schools in its host communities from the basic to the tertiary level.
It is a reflection of the company's aim to make the communities in which it operates better off for it being there, by supporting key district developmental goals in the area of education.
