TV3’s Mission team has discovered that some pre-schools in the Western Region are teaching pupils to recite rhymes with the word “beer”. It is unclear whether that recital is part of the Ghana Education Service’s curriculum.
Fears have been expressed that usage of such word in recitals could have an adverse effect on the lives of the pupils, and the nation as a whole, in future.
The kindergarten of the Catholic D/A School in the Wassa Amenfi East District is one of the schools teaching pupils these rhymes.
Surprisingly, the headteacher of the School appeared clueless concerning the effect the rhyme could have on the kids.
The rhyme goes:
Teacher: Beer ooo beer...
Pupils: Beer
Teacher: One bottle of beer
Pupils: Beer
Teacher: Two bottles of beer
Pupils: Beer
Teacher: Three bottles of beer
Pupils: Beer
…and it continues as the pupils jump in response.
