The University of Education, Winneba, has made it a policy for all fresh students to be introduced to the use of computers in their studies, as a compulsory course.
Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, the Vice-Chancellor, said in line with this, the University has been connected to the internet via satellite.
Addressing a matriculation ceremony for sandwich students at the College of Agriculture Education of the University, at Asante-Mampong, he said there was sufficient access to a wide range of internet resources for teaching, learning and research.
He, therefore, encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to keep abreast with modern technological advances in their different fields of study.
They should visit academic sites on the internet regularly to update their knowledge.
A total of 903 students were admitted to pursue programmes in early childhood education, environment, health and sanitation.
Prof Asabere-Ameyaw said their vision was to become “one of the best in higher education provision world-wide,” and that the University was determined to transmit its focus on excellence to the students.
It would do everything to help them to be independent in their thinking and their way of doing things.
He urged them to subject themselves to the training “we intend to provide you, to enable you leave the University of Education, Winneba, a transformed and functional Ghanaian – a Ghanaian who will be useful to him or herself and the society”.
He reminded them to be disciplined and study hard to justify their admission.
They should abide by the rules and regulations of the institution to avoid trouble, he added.
