The Inter College Network (ICON) has said a cheque government released through the GETFund as payment for Teacher trainees feeding grants and allowances had bounced according to information from their Principals.

The Government of Ghana on Wednesday 19th October, 2016 came out publicly and announced to teacher trainees that it has released an amount of Ghs 50 million as feeding grant.

According ICON it was later announced that the Government of Ghana through the GETFund released Ghs 11 million instead of the Ghs 50 million.

"Principals of various colleges on Monday, 11th December, 2016 announced to students a cheque they received indicating that the feeding grants had indeed been released.

"Two days after the announcement (13th December,2016) the principals came back and informed their students of the Banks' inability to process the cheque. The cheque is now a "bounced cheque" of which trainees are not too clear about this unfortunate incident," the release said.

INTER COLLEGE NETWORK (ICON)

Teacher trainees feeding grants and allowances.

The Government of Ghana on Wednesday 19th October, 2016 came out publicly and announced to teacher trainees that it has released an amount of Ghs 50 million as feeding grant.

Trainees bought into this and became enthused where as this money is in to reduce the burden incurred on parents and colleges as far as feeding of teacher trainees is concerned.

It was later announced that the Government of Ghana through the GETFund has released Ghs 11 million instead of the Ghs 50 million. Despite the fact that trainees weren't too happy with this political gimmicks, we accepted it in good faith.

Principals of various colleges on Monday, 11th December, 2016 announced to students a cheque they received indicating that the feeding grants had indeed been released.

Two days after the announcement (13th December,2016) the principals came back and informed their students of the Banks' inability to process the cheque. The cheque is now a "bounced cheque" of which trainees are not too clear about this unfortunate incident.

The Government of Ghana is owing the current level 100 students through to the newly recruited teachers which we think it is so worrisome, distressing and appalling.

We are therefore pleading with the Government to come to our aid. It is a humble appeal to the government to kindly settle this debt by the end of February, that's end of this semester.

We would again take this opportunity to congratulate the President- elect and again appeal to the incoming government not to take trainees for granted. You have promised to restore in full, the teacher trainees allowances which is emphatically and clearly stated in page 32 of your manifesto and so we would take you at your words.

We would plead with you to go exactly by that.

Thank you very much.

..Signed..
