The newly elected President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Philippa Larsen, has promised to flush out teachers who do not have certificates but have managed to use other people’s to teach.

This, according to her, would bring sanity into the teaching profession.

Mrs Larsen said in an interaction with the media in Cape Coast, the Central Regional capital, after the association’s 5th quadrennial delegates’ conference to elect new executives.

The newly elected president used the occasion to call on all splinter groups within the teaching profession to come back to their mother association (GNAT) to work hand-in-hand to restore the lost image of the profession.

Mrs Larsen, who until her election was the acting national president of the association, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in her.

She also called on the members of GNAT to support her to fight their cause as teachers.

She polled 568 – representing over 90 percent – to beat her two contenders, who managed to get 22 and 2 votes respectively.
