The double track system seems to be progressing successfully as the green track will be vacating for the gold track to take over in the second week of November.
According to Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy Minister of Education, the gold track will be going to school on November 10 instead of 8 as announced earlier.
Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Monday, the Deputy Minister said the change of date is for the various schools to put things in place before the second batch resumes.
“So far everything is going on as planned…” he added.
The green track which was the first batch of students under the double track system reopened school on September 11, 2018.
The double track system introduced in the senior high schools divides the entire student body and staff into two different tracks. So, while one track is in school, the other is on vacation.
The system was a measure to address congestion in senior high schools following the implementation of the Free SHS policy.

It will be unfair to say the policy is bad. It help to give more access for every student. My challenge though is the schools who are not on the double track system and stays on campus for the regular period are being taught throughout the three months whilst the double track have that period for two sections, how do they balance the extra time? Secondly why not the ministry give a general official notice to the reopening of the track two.
Still I dont understand the system, today 8th, tomorrow 10th, next week 12th.Oh God help us.
It affords greater number of students the chance to have secondary education in the top echelon schools. What is more? 50 more students have the benefit of education at PRESEC.
I even want the double-track system to be regularized. It affords greater number of students to have secondary education in the top echelon schools. If traditionally the total intake of say PRESEC was 100, with the double-track, 50 more students can be added, bringing it to 150. This 150 students will be divided into 2 by this double-track model. Now we find a class of two 75 students. Now the level of congestion in the class has reduced from 100 to 75. What is more? %0 more students have the benefit of education at PRESEC.
You sit there and say this is successful. How are students coming for this early vacation going to be engaged? Even if they are to be engaged who is picking that bill? Totally confused bunch of people who will not subject their to this mess.
We hoping it will be successful
@Richard. I am sorry for you. People who answer to this name do not talk and behave like you have done on this platform. Change your style and be a good Richard. Friendly advice.
@Richard. What are you trying to convey?? you are not clear. Newly recruited teachers were not for the second track only but for the various schools to beef up the numbers of the already existing teachers. Are you sure these "guys are a failure"?? This double track system is the best under the circumstance and it is working but you see it as failure. You also sound partisan, but if I were you I will avoid blind condemnation of the initiative to provide free education to include the poor. Probably you have not seen the plight of poor people with academically bright children before. Let's all help to make this innovative project a success. We all win.
Seems everything is going on fine with this policy. Well done Deputy Minister.
What happened to the teachers claimed to be recruited for the second track. Today is November 5 and school reopens on 10th. You take almost 50cedis from unemployed people and yet still nothing is out . Is that a scam or a day light robbery? At least come out to the public and say something to them. This is not right seriously ,you guys are a failure .
