Non Governmental Organizations (NGO) wishing to donate medical equipment and other materials to selected public healthcare facilities of their choice, were on Thursday, advised to consult authorities of such facilities first, before procuring the equipment.
Such consultations would go a long way to help the donors procure or mobilize the right type of medical equipment required by the management of the selected facilities for effective operations.
Dr. Godfrey .K. Morrison, Effutu Municipal Director of Health Services made the appeal at Winneba on Thursday.
Dr. Morrison was speaking at a ceremony at which representatives of an American based Christian NGO, Berson Ministerial Alliance (BMA), presented assorted equipments and beddings worth about US6,000 dollars to the Effutu Municipal hospital at Winneba.
Dr. Morrison said in some cases, medical equipment donated to health facilities by donors turn out to be either of little or no help, to the beneficiary facility.
He said the government appreciates efforts being made by individuals and organizations towards the promotion of good health to Ghanaians, particularly those in the rural areas and commended leaders and members of BMA for their foresight.
He expressed the hope that the donation would not be a 9-day wonder but periodic affair to ensure effective health development in the Effutu Municipality.
Reverend John Mensah-Acquaye, local representative of BMA said the move was to promote effective coordination between the Alliance and the Effutu Municipal hospital for continuous mobilization and donation of vital health equipment to the hospital.
He expressed the hope that that the equipment would be put to good use.
Dr. John Aniwa, Medical Superintendent of the hospital and Ms. Sophia Blankson, Nurse Manager assured the donors that the equipment would be used to enhance the healthcare activities of the hospital.
