The Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana as part of her love for the less privileged in society today joined workers of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital to mark their open day.
The purpose of the open day is to open the hospital to the public for them to come, visit and familiarize themselves about the hospital and its operations and also educate them on mental health.
The Second Lady Matilda Amissah –Arthur who has been a regular visitor of the facility called for the need to educate the public about the facility and erase the perception that the place is meant for ‘mad people’.
This she said would end the stigmatization attached to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The Second Lady was accompanied by the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah–Arthur noted that the idea of the open day was a very noble and good initiative, which would educate people on what goes on at the hospital.
She commended the workers and staff of the hospital for making the place clean and neat and promised that as a lover of children, she would use the opportunity to educate school children about mental health.
Staff of the home handed the second lady a portrait of herself painted by one of the patient in the home after her visit to the place.
They said through the effort of the Second Lady, the facility has had a facelift.
As part of the open day to the public, they showcased some art and craft works done in collaboration with some of the patients.
