Grace for Impact, a US based international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has organized a massive medical outreach programme for some 425 patients at Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.

The medical outreach exercise, which patients were screened of general health care, dental, diabetes, vision and malaria also provided medication for them from an onsite pharmacy, filled with the majority of prescriptions.

Grace for Impact was partnered by M&D Clinic to ensure that healthcare was brought to the door steps of the patients, in order to break the various cycles of poverty in the community.

To deepen access to healthcare in the area, over 500 pair of glasses were distributed to the community alongside hygiene kits for dental health and personal hygiene.

The community members were engaged recently at Kotoku Presby Park, where numerous cases of malaria were treated as well as several life-threatening cases and admissions.

So far, Grace for Impact has reached over 110,000 worldwide with over $26M USD in services provided to the poor.

The NGO provide the service on yearly basis, as it wants to be seen as a partner in quality healthcare while ensuring that the poor take ownership of their health and capitalize on all resources available to them through the National Health Scheme (NHIS).

The Country Coordinator, Mr. Kofi Boafo, said “As a Ghanaian, it’s encouraging to see all of the medical professionals and volunteers coming out to support us, providing care to a gold standard and making an impact.”

He was happy about how the team throughout the exercise was actively encouraging the community members to register with NHIS while offering education importance of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and prevention of diseases.

Ms. Amanda Childress, the CEO of Grace for Impact on her part stated, “I’m encouraged to see our volunteer medical professionals turn up in record numbers this year- it says a lot about Ghanaians and I was humbled and honored to serve alongside them.

“We’re building a sizable network in Ghana so that volunteer medical specialists can continue providing specialized care, pro bono, year-round in Ghana, using private sector clinics and donated medical supplies and materials provided by Grace for Impact. The initiative also sparks the flame of giving back and volunteerism which play an important role in any society.”

In addition, Grace for Impact also trained a team at Aburi in the Eastern Region on eye health screening and over 500 pair of reading glasses were turned over for distribution to the elderly.

Given the staggering number of needlessly blind people in Ghana, Grace for Impact has also started a wait list for free cataract surgery.
