Continuous rainfall that started on Tuesday night until Wednesday afternoon in Winneba and Apam caused damage to property. There was however no casualties.
Mr Ato Daughan, Effutu Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, briefing the Ghana News Agency in Winneba said most houses at Low Cost, Lagoon Lodge, Klimovic Hospital, Bethel Clinic, Alladulla Church, have been submerged while a bridge at Kokobrim was washed away.
Some dormitories at the A.M.E. Zion Girls' Senior High School that were flooded two weeks ago were also seriously affected. Mr Daughan, who led a team from his outfit to assess the extent of damage, said some books and personal belongings of the students were swept away. He said a stream near Klimovic over-flooded its banks and submerged a portion of the Winneba Junction road, preventing taxis and other small cars from plying the road.
The situation compelled most taxi cabs from plying the road making most passengers stranded. Mr Daughan said a private car which attempted to ply the road was pulled into the gutter by the flood and personnel of the Ghana Fire Service in Winneba had to spend some time before retrieving it. At Apam the District Police Commander, Superintendent Owusu Berko told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the flood covered a portion of the Apam Junction road near the District Assembly Offices and prevented vehicles to reach Apam town.
According to him, three vehicles, including those of the Apam Senior High School and the District Assembly were carried into a gutter when they attempted to cross it. The Assembly woman of Alata Electoral Area of Apam, Madam Grace Oke Santana, said about 200 houses in an area called "Come Down" had been submerged.
She said she had been able to provide four boats to convey those trapped in their houses to safer places. At Ahentia in the Awutu-Senya District, the flood submerged a portion of the road near the town, making it impossible for Vehicles from Awutu Beraku to reach Obrachire.
