A family of four and a man received machete wounds on Sunday when a fight broke out at Simpa, a community in the Tarkwa Nsauem Municipality.
The victims Appiah, Kojo Hemen, his father, Kweku Amevor, brother Emmanuel Quaicoe and mother whose name was not given at the time of the incident are on admission at the Tarkwa government hospital.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency on Monday, Chief Inspector Sampson Budu Addae, Station officer at the Dompim Police Station, said there was a funeral at Simpa and the funeral organizers connected electricity from Hemen’s house to the funeral grounds.
He said in the course of the funeral the cable from Hemen’s house caught fire and destroyed his television set.
Hemen went to the funeral grounds with a machete and gave Appiah a dip cut on the head.
He said after the act a mob attacked him and his siblings and inflicted cutlass wounds on them and were taken to the Dompim Health Center but a mob went there with the intention of killing them. They were taken to the Tarkwa Government Hospital where they are on admission.
Inspector Addae said so far no arrest has been made.
Mr. Isaac Mensah, Senior Medical Assistant at the Dompim Health Center, said the actions of the mob halted activities at the clinic because they destroyed the main gate of the clinic and other medical equipment.
He said the mob also forced their way into the main hall of the clinic to prevent the nurses from attending to the victims.
