The Tamale Police Command has revealed that preliminary investigations have shown that Nma Kande, a staunch NDC member initiated the attack on the Deputy Women and Children Affairs Minister, Hajia Hawawu Gariba Boya on Sunday.

There have been different accounts of the incidents from Sunday; One from Hajia Gariba Boya, another from the son of Nma Kande and the final one from Tamale South NDC Secretary.

Speaking to Citi News, the Tamale Metropolitan Commander of Police, DSP Caesar Abanga said statements from five eyewitnesses confirmed the report by the Deputy Minister.

“I believe the son was not there but the Minister and the bodyguard with the hairdresser and her two apprentices are saying that Kande attacked the Minister. Before pouncing on the Minister, Kande pushed down the hairdresser; a pregnant woman. The bodyguard in an attempt to save the Minister dragged Kande off her. She (Kande) then fell and sustained some injuries”, he explained.

DSP Abanga stated that Hajia Gariba Boya’s version of the story corroborated with that of the three witnesses: “we are expecting Mma Kande to come with witnesses or tell us the side of her story but she is refusing.”

He further added that the Police might have to force Nma Kande for a statement.

“If our investigation reveals that she is the aggressor, we’ll put her before court”, DSP Abanga said.

Meanwhile the Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Hawawu Gariba Boya has said she will soon provide evidence of a petition submitted to the Chief of Staff concerning the alleged assault against her by the spokesperson of President John Mahama.

Hajia Gariba has insisted that John Jinapor had assaulted her, a matter which according to her is being investigated by the Chief of Staff.

Speaking to Citi News, Hajia Gariba Boya said she had documents to prove her claims.
“I have all the letters I wrote to the Vice President. I’ll bring them when I come back to Accra”, she stated.

She further accused the Presidential Spokesperson, John Jinapor of attacking and assaulting her in a similar manner previously.

John Jinapor has however denied this allegation.
