FORMER US President George Bush senior was in intensive care last night with a serious fever.
Mr Bush, 88, was moved into the specialist unit of the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, a month after being admitted with a bronchitis-like cough.
His spokesman Jim McGrath said: Hes had a series of setbacks that have landed him in the intensive care unit.
Doctors continue to be cautiously optimistic about the current course of treatment.
Mr Bush was admitted to hospital on November 23. It was hoped he would be home for Christmas.
But he developed a fever and was moved into intensive care. He is now on a liquids-only diet.
His spokesman added: The President is alert and conversing with medical staff, and is surrounded by family.
