The Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Mohammed Yusif Tango, has appeal to Ghanaians to support the Police Service in fighting crime in the country.

Speaking on an Accra based internet radio Hedjorleonlineradio.com, he noted that the shooting incident at Kumasi last Wednesday that led to two dead was a worrying situation that the police are investigating.

According to reports, two persons were shot dead by unknown assailants in what police suspect to be reprisals in connection with some violence which occurred in the Manhyia South constituency during the 2012 electioneering campaign.

The two suspected to have masterminded the shooting of one Maphus, a political activist were treated in the same fashion in broad day light at Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi.

Maphus was said to have survived the attack but the two did not.

The Ashanti Regional Police identified the deceased persons as Victor Ocran and Kwadwo Asamoah popular called ‘Gauso.’

Mr. Tanko said Gauso has been on the police wanted list in connection with the attack on Maphus during the 2012 general elections.

He added that though there have been some shooting and killing incidents in Kumasi, the town is still calm and businesses are moving on.

“The police has sent troops to the scene to prevent any further attack”, he said.

When asked why Asamoah who was on the wanted list of the police was still moving around until his death before knowing his where about, he said “you know crime control is the responsibility between the public and the police and as you are aware, the police is not everywhere at any particular time so is the responsibilities the public to help the police to arrest crime suspects.

“It is the responsibility of as all because in societies that are able to deal with crime effectively, the police and security agencies and members of the public have lived in co-existence,” he added.

According to him, arresting crime victims mostly is the duty of the police but sometimes individuals with information should help the police for easy arrest.
