It has been reported in Egypt that the Muslim Brotherhood has appointed the deputy leader of the movement, Mahmoud Ezzat, as the temporary spiritual leader of the organisation.
He is a doctor by profession and has been detained and imprisoned by Egyptian authorities on several occasions.
This move comes following the arrest of Brotherhood chief Mohamed Badie.
He, along with his deputy Khairat el-Shater, will go on trial later this month for their alleged involvement in the killing of eight protesters outside the organisations Cairo headquarters in June.
Egyptian media has described Ezzat as the Brotherhoods iron man and is known to be a key figure in policy making decisions.
