No compensation will be paid to people who encroach on the land meant for the construction of the Ho Airstrip, in the Volta Region, Transport Minister Dzifa Attivor has warned.

She noted that it was common for people who wanted to take money dishonestly form government to start putting up illegal structures on land acquired by the state for developmental purposes.

Mrs. Attivor, expressed those sentiments during an inspection of the Ho Airstrip landsite on Monday, emphasizing that, the government would pay monies only to the original owners of the lands.

She explained that the construction of the Ho Airstrip was in fulfillment of government’s promise to construct airports in all regional capitals to facilitate the effective movement of persons and goods as well as to promote tourism.

Mrs. Attivor noted that although only 1,300 acres of land had been acquired, the government, through the Regional Lands Commission, was going to extend the size of the land to 3,000 acres.

“After all land issues have been solved, we will then start with the feasibility studies as well as the concept designs for the construction of the airstrip,” she said.

Mrs. Attivor advised the Regional Minister to immediately commence the demarcation of the land to prevent encroachers from taking possession of the site.

The Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, assured the minister that he would engage the Lands Commission to demarcate the boundaries.

“We shall contract the assembly to monitor all activities on the land and also seek the services of the 66 Artillery of the Ghana Armed Forces to ensure that he land is protected from encroachers,” he added.
