The trial of Akadji Bakari Mohammed, the car dealer accused of murdering Naomi Aseyie Avevor, his former girlfriend and mother of his son at Leklevikope near Denu in the Volta Region, has been adjourned by an Accra Central Magistrate Court.

The adjournment was to enable the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Gladys Ofosuwah, to conclude investigations on the matter.

Victor Kwadjogah Adawudu, counsel for Akadji, was not in court when the case was called. The Magistrate, Charles Boateng, had the matter adjourned to May 7, 2014.

Mr. Adawudu had at the last hearing told the court that the suspect had been granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000.00 with three sureties by a High Court in Hohoe, Volta Region.

Mohammed allegedly murdered Asiyie with her two-year-old baby boy.

The car dealer has been charged with murder but had denied any wrongdoing.

Chief Inspector Fosuwah told the court that the accused person was in a relationship with the Naomi and they both lived at Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region.

She said the deceased became pregnant and went to live with her sister at Leklevikope near Denu, where she gave birth to their son, Mawunyo Bakari. She said the accused person left the deceased and her son there for one year.

The prosecutor claimed that when the deceased returned there was a misunderstanding regarding the custody of the child so she lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Teshie, a suburb of Accra.

She said Mohammed suspected that Naomi was having an affair with someone else and that generated a lot of quarrels so she moved out and went to Leklevikpope where she rented a room and was staying with her baby.

According Chief Inspector Fosuwah, on November 21, 2013, the car dealer travelled to where the deceased was staying and allegedly murdered her while the body of her baby was deposited in a container nearby.
