The police in Kumasi have served notice it will henceforth spare no one found flouting any provision of the Road Traffic Act 2004, Act 683, that regulates the use of 'DV' and 'DP' trade number plates.

The warning follows an operation over the weekend which saw the police impound about 200 vehicles for abuse of trade plates. They have since been released to their owners with a warning to go and sin more or face the music.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye says the vehicles bearing 'DV' and 'DP' trade registration numbers were impounded while being used for several prohibited activities and the offenders would have to answer for abusing road regulations the next time they are caught.

He told owners of the impounded vehicles and pressmen in Kumasi that while the trade plates are issued under strict prohibitions – such as prohibition from using it for social activities like weddings, funerals or for taking children to and from school – criminals have also been known to employ same for their nefarious activities.
